About
Scott Mabe's work exists between the analog and the digital, the landscape and the figure. It is this space, the in-between, where he finds a point of view that is ultimately queer. Born in Texas on a dairy farm to a Baptist preacher and a schoolteacher, the youngest of six children, Scott began taking photographs of the rural landscape and the people who inhabited it at a young age using disposable Kodak cameras. After studying Photography and Art History at the University of North Texas, Scott moved to New York City, where he honed his digital photo manipulation skills. This has led to his current body of work, which bastardizes the rural landscape of his childhood, documented in analog, with found digital erotic images. Scott is also heavily (and happily) influenced by the horror and weird fiction genre and heavy metal music.
