About

Originating from North Carolina, Carmen DeCristofaro is a Brooklyn-based photographer and prolific portrait artist. An obsession with legacy and life beyond death has pushed DeCristofaro to use her lens to constantly document herself and the people surrounding her. Decristofaro draws aesthetic inspiration from her upbringing in the rural American South, rife with gothic yet beautiful scenery. Her current works focus on images of the transgender community and surrounding members to enrich representation in contemporary American photography. Her works have been exhibited in the Museum of Fine Arts in Tallahassee, Greenville Museum of Art in North Carolina, Silvermine Art Center in New Canaan, Connecticut, Millennium Film Gallery in Brooklyn, and more. She enjoys exploring Brooklyn nightlife and dancing with her chosen family when she is not taking photographs.
